Jett's Birthday Party, The First Snow, & Christmas Crayons

Jett's Birthday Party
Friday was Jett's 2nd Birthday, so to celebrate, I invited the family over for dinner. It was hard trying to decide on what theme we should do this year since he loves Buzz, Elmo, Backyardigans, and Gnomeo & Juliet, so I settled on what is easiest to get party supplies for: Elmo.

When Jett woke up in the morning, Dave and I decided to give him his presents since we knew Cruise would want to play with them as soon as he saw them. This gave Jett the day to play with them without Cruise trying to steal them. We got him this cute Sesame Street set with Elmo, Cookie Monster, Bert & Ernie. He always seemed to be interested in that toy every time we went to the store. So we got that and, of course, the yearly book. This year it was The Sneeches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss. He LOVES it.

I spent pretty much the entire day getting ready for his party. I made his cake, cleaned the house, and made dinner. Dave scrubbed the kitchen floor and got Jett's balloons. I made homemade chili with cornbread. Dave's siblings Joey, Dan and his wife Sofia came. My parents, sister Abby and her husband Casey came as well. The boys did what they usually and just picked at their food, knowing cake was on its way.

Finally the cake came out and Jett was really excited about it (as was Cruise). He blew out his candle and had no problem downing his piece of cake.

After cake, we gave Jett his gifts. From Grandma and Grandpa Greer he got a pirate doll and a doctor set. From Uncle Dan and Aunt Sofia he got a bunch of great books! Some were those touch and feel ones, and others were good old classics like Peter and the Wolf. Uncle Joey gave him a puzzle book of super heroes as well as a SpongeBob book that comes with the little characters to play with. He and Cruise really fought over that one. From Aunt Abby and Uncle Casey, he got an adorable outfit for his pictures, which I will scan for you next week. And from Grandma and Grandpa Ybarra, he got his very own stuffed doggy. He sleeps with it now.

Thank you to all the family for your wonderful gifts! We were so glad you could make it to his party and were willing to take the time out to celebrate with us!

The First Snow
Cruise was so excited about seeing the snow! He LOVES the snow. So of course he woke up Saturday morning ready to go play. I got both the boys dressed and ready and went out to play with them. Cruise wanted to make a snowman, but the first snow is never good packing snow. So we were unsuccessful. Jett isn't too fond of the snow just yet. He whined every time he got some on his gloves or boots. So he just kinda stood there and stared at it. I then dragged them around in the yard on the sled, which they were totally happy with.

When we came in, I got them cereal and hot cocoa. They giggled and laughed about who knows what all through breakfast. Those kids are too funny.

Throughout the day, the snow started to melt, so Cruise tried to save it by grabbing fistfuls and stuffing them into the freezer. Since that day he every now and then clasps his hands together, looks up at the sky and says, "C'mon clouds, pleeeaase snow!" It's absolutely adorable. But really, that kid wants the snow; I wonder if the cloud gods will give in to his demands.

Christmas Crayons
I have always wanted to try this, so for Christmas presents for the boys I thought I'd recycle their old crayons and make them into Christmas tree crayons. I found a cute mold on sale and JoAnns. I filled each with the same color family and heated them at 250 degrees F in the oven until they were almost liquid. Then I cooled them outside and voila! Christmas tree crayons.

I've always wanted to try the crayon thing. I may have to make that a regular activity since my kids go through crayons like toilet paper and I hate to throw them out just 'cause they're broken.
