Independence Day & The Boys' Camping Trip

We're one of those families who avoids the parades, the crowds, the heat, and most of all, the traffic. Yeah, we're no fun. Especially this year. I am going to do a little as possible in the 100 degree weather.

For Independence Day, we visited with Dave's family for lunch. It was a wonderful lunch and the boys even ate quite a bit before playing with the girls next door. After a couple of hours, we had to get home so I could get started on getting things ready for dinner.
Now that my parents are moved into their condo in Seal Beach, California, my only family around is my little sister, Abby, and her husband Casey. So we had them over for dinner and fireworks. I didn't get a picture of the food, but I made a gluten-free noodle salad, BBQ chicken breasts, and provided Izze sodas & Creamies for dessert. Abby & Casey brought chips & a berry salad. The boys loved bouncing off the walls and being riled up by their Aunt & Uncle, and then it finally got dark enough for the boys to start fireworks. They had been asking for fireworks for a couple of weeks and despite the fact that Dave was not thrilled about spending money on fireworks this year, I gave in and bought the smallest pack I could find at Costco, which proved to be a really good deal seeing how many they gave us for $20. Jett liked the poppers and Cruise, well, Cruise loved everything. Especially the sparklers. We let the boys stay up and watch the big Thanksgiving Point Fireworks from the top of their treehouse. I had to head inside since I couldn't sit much longer. But they had a blast!
I'm pretty sure he aspires to joining the circus one day.
For the past few weeks, Cruise had been asking to go on a camping/fishing trip with Dave (I blame Goofy Movie). So that evening after the boys went to bed, Dave & I got everything ready for their camping trip to Payson Lakes. I really wanted to go, but unfortunately of how pregnant I am, I would've made it completely miserable for everyone and not much help. So Dave invited his parents to come and help with the boys. Early in the morning I headed off to my 3 hour glucose test (a whole other post right there) while Dave finished getting things packed for the boys. I got home and saw them off, after which I laid down to recover from the torture I had been through earlier that morning.
They all had a blast and were so excited to tell me all about their trip! While they were away, I kept thinking to myself just how boring my life is without them. The house may be quiet and things may go untouched, but life sure is pointless without them.

Since it's a feat to get Dave to blog, I'll have to summarize what they did. When they got there, they set up camp and got settled, after which they got ready to head out to the lake. They got to boat, jump off the dock, bike, fish, and take in everything Payson Lakes. They really had a lot of fun!  Unfortunately the water was a little low, so instead of jumping off the dock, Dave had to lower the boys down and let them drop. They still loved it.

Apparently it rained all night and Dave didn't get much sleep, but luckily the boys slept really well. In the morning, they made eggs and bacon and had some watermelon Grandma & Grandpa Ybarra brought. After a bike ride around the lake, they packed up and headed home.
Makin' breakfast.
