May 2019

May started with the Fathers and Sons campout. I, of course, went out with my fellow Boy Mom friend, Alicia, for a girls night. We got pedis and then went to dinner at Spitz Mediterranean Street Food. And it ended with me folding laundry and catching up on Kim's Convenience on Netflix. I mean, could it have been any better?
Meanwhile, Dave was braving it with the boys in Spanish Fork canyon, in the cold.
Bye Dave!
Bye Boys!

On the 6th, Dave and I celebrated our 13th anniversary. Actually, we didn't celebrate it until the 10th, when we got to get away for the night. Dave's parents were kind enough to watch the boys for us overnight at their place. Dave was able to find a hotel room in Sandy that has a giant jacuzzi tub in it, so we checked in and then headed over to Tsunami for dinner. We got shrimp poppers to start, and then ordered three sushi rolls. The manager heard it was our anniversary, so we got a free dessert as well! Woot woot!

The room was fantastic, the jacuzzi was AH-MAZING, the beds were so comfortable and the pillows! Don't get me started on the pillows! Let's just say I seriously considered just buying them from the hotel. They were so. comfortable. It was a really nice getaway and much needed. The only way it could've been better was if it had been two nights instead of one. I would take three too.

Mother's Day was on the 12th. Miles' preschool held a Moms and Muffins the week before and as always, it was adorable. Miles gave me my Mother's Day present which was a cute fill-in-the-blank page, hand prints in a heart, and a framed picture. (Just for the record, I don't know how to do a front flip and I have no memory of ever teaching him.)

My parents sent me a gift basket of amazing goodness. I made everyone sit down and we had a tasting of everything in the basket.
Mother's Day was pretty good and chill. I woke up to a breakfast of a waffle, over-easy egg, and a parfait. We then took the usual Mother's Day photos in front of my lilac.
At church, the Elders Quorum set up this nice table for the women in the ward. And by set up, I mean my friend Lucy went to Costco and bought all the food on Saturday, and prepared it all before church, and then her husband got a bunch of guys in the ward to set it on the table in a symmetrical way. (She also mentioned in our convo that those were her Mother's Day flowers.) Ha ha ha! Poor lady. She did a great job though, it was delicious.
In the evening, Dave and the boys gifted me an air fryer and a couple of things Dave got for free that I ended up hating (I liked the air fryer and it was brand new, so that was a win). I love him oh so much, but I'm hoping this was a good learning opportunity for him and that he will no longer gift me someone else's D.I. pile in the future. #loveyoudave (In all fairness, I told him I didn't want him to buy me anything for Mother's Day. So really, it's my fault).
Dave got me some really pretty flowers and the boys made some sweet things at school.
Jett made me this super cute card.
Cruise made this cute picture book.
Dave got me the pretty flowers.
 Jett made me a cake.
And made us all sing to me.
And that was Mother's Day.

On the 16th, Miles graduated from Preschool! His teachers Mrs. Jensen and Mrs. Hall held a super cute graduation and Miles pretty much stole the show with his winks, waves, and blowing kisses. Let's just say, he was super adorable and I'm sure everyone wished he was their kid. Each of the kids had to recite a rhyme, so he did 12345 Once I Caught a Fish Alive, and he did it perfectly.
I can't believe he's going to Kindergarten!

The next week...
Jett had his school dance festival. The 3rd grade danced to a song from Trolls. (He's the troll in orange). He was so focused on looking at Dave who was snapping pictures and recording, that he kept forgetting he was supposed to be dancing too! He was too cute.

Cruise had his 6th grade graduation. They had a whole, huge awards ceremony basically for kids who got all A's, kids who had impeccable attendance, kids who were the "hope of tomorrow". Cruise was amazingly chill compared to me, who was fuming from the back of the gymnasium as award after award was handed out to what seemed like every other kid but mine. You know, the kid who has overcome so many speech, sensory, behavioral, and academic roadblocks? Remember that one? (Obviously I'm not over it). They finally gave out the graduation certificates and he was a rock star. He was saluting and throwing rock n' roll horns, it was great. I was so proud of him and a little embarrassed that I was internally frustrated and angry.
His awesome teacher, Mrs. Kanenwisher, awarded him the Student of the Month in May and also the Whoppers award (for telling the best stories). She seriously was so good for him and pushed him to be ready for jr. high. I am so grateful he had such amazing teachers all throughout elementary.
Cruise I also bought a 6th grade year book and each student had to write something about themself and take a picture. This was Cruise's:
"This handsome guy has received first place 2 years in a row. He has also won an award in Reflections. He suffered the loss of his uncle when he was 2. But he still stays strong today. He has autisum but is barely affected by it. He is also very good at art. He is very smart. His art inspired many other students, and is one of the most famous students of the 6th grade. Also, that person is me."

He obviously does not suffer from self-esteem/confidence issues.

Cruise also had to do a country report for his last big assignment. He chose Mexico because he has ancestors from there, and because he wanted to show people that Mexicans are hard-working, good people and that "Trump's wall is a big waste of tax payers dollars and is stupid." I was super proud of him. Each page had to have a certain number of sentences and a picture. He chose to draw most of his pictures and they were fantastic. His teachers loved it, as did I.

Jett came home with his writing and I loved so much of it, but especially the parts he writes about his family. I mean, could there be a sweeter kid?
"Some one who is special to me is my mom and my dad. My dad helps me. He helps me when I'm sad. He inspires me. When I see him do something I want to do it. My mom helps me with stuff. Like cooking and bakeing. She loves me very much. She is my family and I love my family. And that's why there special to me."

On the 24th, we went on another date and this time it was Dave's turn to pick. He chose clay pigeon shooting. The last time we went was when Cruise was a year old. It had been a long time. Turns out, it's not my jam. But we still had fun! We had to drive about 45 minutes just to find a place to shoot, but I really didn't mind. I mostly loved it because it rained, it was cool and quiet (nature, not the shooting), and I got to just spend time with Dave. I didn't hit anything and between shooting and throwing clay pigeons, my arm got all messed up. Dave brought a watermelon to shoot with a buck shot and holy cow it shredded that thing! On the drive back, a bunch of rainbows showed up that I thought were gorgeous. Rainbows are always prettier in person.
After shooting, we drove to Saratoga Springs and we tried a less expensive sushi place. We're pretty spoiled when it comes to sushi, so it wasn't amazing, but it was pretty good. After that, we stopped by Kneaders to grab some dessert for later.
This was my fortune and it was kind of perfect.

Also in May...

Dave bought me an exercise bike off of KSL because I thought "What the heck! Let's see if I like it!"...I didn't like it. I wanted to like it, I really did, but it just wasn't my thing. So we sold it and turned a profit.

Dave started learning how to kite surf from his friend and really likes it. We also have learned that Dave tends to pick expensive hobbies. Ha ha ha! So, one day he can buy his own kite and board. That day is not today. He has messed up his ankle a couple of times practicing on land, so hopefully he'll get more opportunities to practice on the lake more often.
But he did get to go fishing more in May.

When school was all finished for Miles, Cruise and Jett's school were still in session. He got bored a lot, but luckily it started to warm up so he could play in the water on the trampoline.

The boys have increasingly enjoyed playing Legos, especially with Lego Movie 2 coming out. I've loved it because they spend a lot of time building and creating and interacting with each other instead of just playing on their Xbox or tablets all the time.

Jett has been into skateboarding a lot and is always asking Dave to take him to the skate park near our house. He has a crappy board and not good skating shoes, but gosh darn it he tries! And I love that he tries. He's so much like Dave in that when he decides he wants to do something, he is going to try and try, no matter how much is stacked against him.

And that was May!
