Jett's Birthday!

Jett's birthday was on a Wednesday, so we filled his room with balloons when he went to sleep Tuesday night. In the morning, Jett opened his present: a Minecraft pick axe/sword. He's been asking for it for months. It's actually pretty cool, it turns from axe to sword and he just loves it!

After he opened his present, I made his favorite breakfast: German pancakes. Since his birthday cake wouldn't be able to have candles (the venue doesn't allow it), I put candles in his German pancake and we sang to him. Cruise also pulled out his guitar and played "Happy Birthday" for him. Miles, of course, made us re-light the candles and sing a couple more times so he could blow out the candles as well.
I sent him to school with a bunch of Hostess cupcakes to share with his class, and for dinner that evening, I made him his favorite dinner: spaghetti and meatballs. That kid really can down spaghetti.

Thursday evening I got started on Jett's cake. He requested a Minecraft cake and luckily I found a pretty good tutorial on YouTube that saved me. So I made the cake, rice crispy treats, and blue jello so I could put it all together on Friday before the birthday party.
Jett wanted to do laser tag for his party, so the best price I could find was at our local bowling ally. They had a great package that included a game of laser tag, a $10 arcade card for each child, 2 pizzas, 2 pitchers of soda, balloons and decorations, and paper products. They actually will provide a cake, but I told them I wanted to bring the cake so they gave me a 2nd pizza. Which was good because one wouldn't have been enough.

Anyway, back to the cake. In the morning I got started putting the cake together. I measured, cut out, and assembled all the pre-made parts. I made some buttercream frosting and colored it green, pulled out all my wood skewers to make sure everything stayed together, and unwrapped the Minecraft characters to put on the cake. Dave helped me a lot, especially with details and making sure the construction of it all was sturdy. Turned out pretty good, I think. Jett and Cruise were in love with the thing and couldn't stop talking about it and kept showing all of the guests the "awesome Minecraft cake".
After school, we headed over to the bowling ally and waited for all the guests. The turn out was pretty good! We planned for 11 kids and 9 showed. Some guests were from the neighborhood: Connor, Colin, Camry and Dylan, and a few from school: Eva, Dallas, and Jeremiah.
We started out with the kids playing in the arcade for a few minutes and then headed right into laser tag. It was hilarious watching all of these little kids running around in over-sized vests shooting each other with lasers. They got to look at their scores at the end and Jett actually got the most points out of everyone in the group! He was pretty stoked about that.
After laser tag, we had pizza, cake, and presents.
And then they spent the rest of the time playing in the arcade. Jett loved playing air hockey and playing racing games. Cruise spent most of his time pulling the lever on the bass game and was ecstatic when he got the ultimate number of tickets: 1,000. Miles had fun pushing buttons and pulling balls out of a game and putting them back in.
Cruise was such a great brother and redeemed some of his tickets to get Jett some silly glasses he wanted.
Overall it was a great party! Pretty laid back and definitely less stressful than having it at home. I would say it was worth the extra money because of that. Dave even turned to me during the party and said, "This is the first birthday party I've actually enjoyed!" Ha ha! It really was fun.

Jett also received an awesome card and some cash from Grandma & Papa Greer and a magic set & chess set from Grandma & Grandpa Ybarra. Thank you guys for remembering his birthday and making him feel so important! Love you guys!
