Memorial Day

Memorial Day was kind of played by ear. I didn't really have anything planned except a small bbq for the 5 of us. But then we decided to give my grandparents a visit. It's kind of pathetic that I've lived this close to their graves and haven't been there once since we moved here. It was super busy, but we got lucky and got a parking space really fast and found someone to help us find their headstones. It was fun sitting and telling my kids about them. I even sang the "Poochie Dog" song that Gina Granny used to sing. And then of course I told them about how my grandfather called all kids little creeps. Ha ha! I sure do miss them.
Miles of course had to step on all the headstones despite our best efforts of trying to deter him. It was pointless in trying.
Then we decided to head to Provo and visit Dave's brother Michael. His headstone needed a little more cleaning up than my grandparents, but we were prepared.
After that, we visited Abby & Casey for a couple minutes and then ran a couple errands. We got home and made a dinner of hot dogs, chips, watermelon, and IBC root beer. Then the boys decided they wanted to the Highland Glen pond and play around, so Dave invited his brother John, his girlfriend and her kids along since it was John's birthday. It actually turned out to be a pretty fun evening. The boys played in the freezing water, Miles fed the ducks, and they even went out in the boat and fished a little, but Miles got pretty cranky there towards the end.

Thanks for going and visiting the grandparents. Every Memorial Day and Veterans Day I wish I were up there to be able to go visit and clean the graves. When we lived there I tried to go each of those holidays each year and would clean it up and leave some roses on each grave. Thanks for doing it!
