Teacher Appreciation Week

May 4-8 was Teacher Appreciation Week. Since I am the room mom, I of course headed that up. Normal classrooms have one teacher with a whole bunch of kids. Our class has 1 teacher, 3 aides, a Speech therapist, and 15 students. So we had to be a little creative and figure out a good way to make sure they all got something. The PTA gave us our theme: A Week at the Beach, and put together a list of things for the students to bring for their teacher each day: Monday was flowers, Tuesday was favorite candybar, etc. Well, you can't expect our parents to buy 5 of each every day. So instead I asked the parents for monetary donations and made sure each of our teachers got something.

The Friday before T.A.W., I was to decorate the classroom door. I did a Hawaii scene and had each kid color a starfish and glued those on. It turned out pretty good I think.
Monday we gave the teachers plastic leis in the morning, and then in the afternoon I brought them each a perenial to plant at home. Tuesday they each got a couple of their favorite candybars, which was put together and delivered by another mom. Wednesday they got a pineapple, also delivered by another mom. Thursday they got a pair of flip flops in their favorite color, this mom sent me a picture of what they looked like before she delivered them. So cute!
And Friday they got a gift card to their favorite place to eat. Obviously Mr. Harris, their actual teacher, got a larger gift card as well as a gift card to Hobby Lobby (apparently a favorite store of his). Friday also happened to be the Ultimate Show and Tell for their class (this is where they spend the day visiting each other's houses). The PTA was having a catered lunch from Texas Roadhouse but because of the Ultimate Show and Tell, our teachers were going to miss that. So I used the rest of the funds to pick up pizzas for the whole class and delivered them to a park where they were taking their lunch between homes.
Overall, it was a very successful week. Stressful but successful!
