Jett's Crazy Hair Day

Jett's Preschool had crazy hair day just this last Wednesday. He specifically asked for blue rockstar hair, but I think he turned out looking more like Sonic the Hedgehog. It's a good thing I kept forgetting to give him that haircut he so desperately needs. But I'm also glad the blue came out. I was a little worried about that.

Dave's 3rd 29th Birthday Party

Dave's parents had us over to celebrate his birthday on the 2nd of March. And once again we were filled up with lots of delicious food and dessert. Dave got a lot of great gifts, mainly cash and gift cards (his favorites) and we got to hang out and chat for awhile with his parents, Dan, Joseph and his fiance Linsey, and Dave's Uncle John.

Another Lost Tooth! March 1st:

We did the door and string bit this time:
He likes he can stick a straw in it now.

Last Week of February

Sunday the 23rd, we celebrated my sister Abby's and Dave's birthdays at my parents' house in Orem. Mom made an excellent dinner that filled us all up, even the boys ate! I made Abby and Dave each their own little cake. Abby, as usual, wanted a Funfetti cake, so I filled in-between layers with crushed up Funfetti Oreos. She loved it. Dave's was chocolate with chocolate whipped frosting, filled with fresh strawberries and topped with chopped up fresh strawberries. That was my personal favorite. It was actually my first time doing piping around the edges, and considering I don't have an icing bag and proper tips, I think I did fairly well. Instead I used a freezer bag with the corner cut, shoved a plastic tip in the corner, and then taped it onto the bag. Not bad, eh?

Monday, I headed up to the capitol to try and talk to some legislators about the Autism Insurance Reform bill, SB57. Unfortunately my state senator, Senator Madsen, wasn't interested in speaking with me, so I sat for two hours waiting to see if he'd come out of session and discuss the bill. But it was still great to be there with my fellow advocates and to learn more about the process. On Friday SB57 was voted on in the Senate and passed! But, Madsen voted no. Disappointing but not surprising.
Tuesday to Thursday was a bit of a blur, but I did end up taking Jett into the doctor because, as it turned out, he had a scratched cornea. Probably a result of being hit in the eye by a certain older brother with a certain Fart Blaster gun (that Jett had earned by getting 15 marbles). Not super fun but it was quick and easy to heal.

Also this week, I found out that Cruise had been especially cruel to a girl in his class and then hit another girl the very next day. The whole situation just hurt my heart so badly and after crying for a quick spell, I got back up and thought of how I could nip this in the bud. I immediately contacted his teacher to set up a meeting for the next week, and then contacted his ABA tutor, Jodi because they are all miracle workers. Jodi's supervisors helped us out and made a social story pretty quickly about being nice at school. We've got the best team ever. More on this issue in the next post.

Friday, the 28th, was Dave's 29th birthday! Dave spent the morning getting his car fixed and registered, and digging through old cars to find parts for his boat. Doesn't sound like a picnic to me, but apparently he really enjoyed it, so that's all that matters. While he did that, I took the two little boys to get some lunch and then to watch Cruise sing at school.

After Cruise got home that afternoon, I put a pumpkin pie into the oven and set the automatic shut off. The boys gave Dave his present: a brand new Coleman 4 person tent. Then we all drove to Orem and ate at Tucanos. Jett mostly ate mashed potatoes and Cruise ate a good amount of meat and bread. When we got home, the house smelled so good! I went to check out the pumpkin pie and all I could see was black. The timer had been set to 60 hours instead of 60 minutes. I felt so stupid! It was ruined. Dave's birthday pumpkin pie NEVER works out. NEVER has it ONCE turned out. Last year, it cooked just fine, but then got knocked all over the floor and completely ruined. So this year, I was able to dig out the middle that was just perfect and plopped it onto a plate, covered it in whipped cream, stuck a candle in it, and we sang to Dave.
After the kids went to bed, I gave Dave a spa night. I picked up some really nice foot scrub and lotion from Target, so I first did a foot bath for him and then gave him a massage. Because we can't really afford to get professional massages, we usually do this for each other's birthdays since it's something we both really enjoy.

So despite the burnt pie, Dave said he had a great birthday. But I swear, for his 30th birthday, he WILL have a perfect pumpkin pie!
